Rolex Daytona Cosmograph 6263 – First Series – Vintage 1972

Rolex Daytona 6263 Stainless Steel with silver dial with black subdials with baton hour markers. Our one owner totally immaculate rarely worn example was UK supplied in 1976 at William Pike jewellers, Birkenhead. You will notice the original papers given on the day of purchase were marked “1680” in error. The watch has been serviced with Rolex twice, on the second occasion a new oyster bracelet was purchased to keep the original from excessive wear. The watch comes complete with original box, Rolex service receipts, papers (although marked 1680) and also the original bracelet. Rolex Daytona 6263's were available in both gold and stainless steel with the case measuring about 37 mm. larger winding crown & screw-down push buttons The 6263's produced from 1970 were Oyster versions with a movement based on the manual-wind Valjoux proven to be exceptionally reliable and accurate. These original Daytona's were not a desirable watch at all when first released and were quite well priced at around £250. Recently becoming highly collectible and fetching record prices at auction. A Rolex-themed auction in Geneva on November 2013 sold a 1969 Rolex Daytona 6263 in stainless steel for 989,000 Swiss Francs (over £750,000 ) at todays exchange rate.
